St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church

30 Jones Hollow Road, Marlborough, CT 06447

On Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the 4:00PM vigil mass, we celebrate the Rite of Acceptance with "candidate" Jennifer Cavanna. Through the blessings given to her during this ceremony we join together to give thanks and to welcome Jennifer into the next phase of her "Journey of Faith."

Jennifer has participated in regular "Inquiry" sessions during which she has been introduced to basic Catholic spiritual truths, traditions, rituals and general knowledge of the Church. She now begings the "Catechumenate Phase" of "Period of Enlightenment" as she works towards achieving full communion with our universal Catholic Community.

The Rite of Acceptance ceremony marks a new beginning of enlightenment for her. Together with many volunteers from our parish, Jennifer will now focus on the heart of Catholic doctrine; the Sacraments, Church History, and Christian Life, always guided by Scripture and the Holy Spirit.

The RCIA process is a "parish-wide" undertaking and YOU are asked to accept your role by reaching out and welcoming our candidate and by participating where possible in Jennifer's training. So, let us join together as we enter this wonderful Advent season and celebrate the beauty of our faith with our sister in union with the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

NOTE: Anyone, adult or teen, wishing to participate in any of the various discussion sessions with our candidate, you are more than welcome. This is a tremendous opportunity to fulfill your Confirmation vow and take up the staff of evangelization. Contact Jim Castellani at This email address is being protected from spambots. God bless you.

LENT: Fasting and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
FASTING means to refrain from eating food between meals and to eat only one full meal with the other two being lighter meals. It is required of those who are age 18 to 59. Liquids are permitted between meals.
ABSTINENCE means to refrain from eating meat. It is required of those 14 years of age and older.

DO YOU PLAN TO FAST THIS LENTEN SEASON?

When pondering what to give up this year, consider Pope Francis’ suggestions to observe this Lent:

  • Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
  • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
  • Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
  • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
  • Fast from worries and have trust in God.
  • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
  • Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
  • Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
  • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
  • Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
  • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
