On this the International day of suicide prevention, may we hold in prayer all those that struggle with mental health illness. May we as a faith community offer a safe place to embrace, support and love individuals and families.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month with September 4-10th being suicide prevention week where we are all invited to hold in prayer those that are affected by mental illness. As the American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide reminds us, this month is important as it:
“is a moment in time in which we rally the public to create awareness of this leading cause of death and inspire more and more people to learn how they can play a role in the communities to save lives. (This month) gives us an opportunity to shine a special, encouraging light on this topic that affects us all and send a clear, hopeful message that help is available and suicide can be prevented.“

We pray that God may heal the hearts of those burdened with mental illness and for their families. May we have the courage to reach out to those struggling with the challenges of mental illness by starting a conversation and offering a caring hand, a listening ear and a loving heart free from judgment. May our God of hope and healing hear our prayers and hold close all those suffering.
