As we approach the season of thanks, may we reflect upon today’s gospel of the Cleansing of the Ten Lepers. Luke reminded us last week that it only takes the faith of a mustard seed to move mountains. This week, the focus is on giving thanks. Today Luke calls us to be thankful for the gift of faith, which opens our hearts to the other gifts and graces from God, helping us to face life’s challenges and be filled with the joy of God’s love. Living a life of gratitude is another way in which we spread the gospel, not by word but by our actions. How are you the recipient of blessings beyond your expectations? Commit this week to take the time to be filled with a sense of thanksgiving for your blessings. Be like the singular leper: “And one of them, realizing he had been healed, returned, glorifying God in a loud voice: and fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.” (NABRE, Luke 17:1516a).
