July 19th - July 21st, 2019

Construction 02We are thrilled this summer to be partnering with the youth and adults of the Marlborough Congregational Church by participating in a combined Marlborough Summer Service weekend in July. Teams of youth (grade 5 through college students home for the summer) will be paired with adult site leaders to work on various projects within our community. The focus is to provide help for those in need such as the veterans and veteran's families, those dealing with a disability, low income or the elderly. If you or someone you know is in need of such support (yard work, cleaning out and organizing, painting, window washing, simple house maintenance, etc) please get in touch with Father Sas or Barbara Meyer at the Parish Office

As far as participants a barbecue at the lake with the youth/adult volunteers and those who will be receiving services will be held on Wednesday July 17th. The actual work will be done July 19-21st with a closing ice cream social at the lake on the 21st.  Saturday, July 20th we will attend 4:00 Mass at St. John Fisher and host a pizza gathering for the work teams following Mass.

This is yet another wonderful community building event for our parish with lots of opportunity to be involved - as a youth or adult service team member, as a baker or sandwich maker (we will be providing lunches each day for the participants), in helping coordinate the pizza gathering after 4:00 Mass or as someone providing food items or drinks.

Stay tuned for more information but please let us know if you would like to be involved - this is an excellent opportunity for youth looking for service hours and to make a positive impact on our broader Marlborough community. Sign up sheets are at the church doors. Please contact Barbara Meyer or Jen O 'Neill for further information.

Regular sessions have begun. Please take the opportunity to greet Kelly, husband Jason and son, Daniel when you see them at mass or during parish activities. Her participation in the RCIA process is a blessing on all of us.

LENT: Fasting and Abstinence

Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting and abstinence. All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence.
FASTING means to refrain from eating food between meals and to eat only one full meal with the other two being lighter meals. It is required of those who are age 18 to 59. Liquids are permitted between meals.
ABSTINENCE means to refrain from eating meat. It is required of those 14 years of age and older.

DO YOU PLAN TO FAST THIS LENTEN SEASON?

When pondering what to give up this year, consider Pope Francis’ suggestions to observe this Lent:

  • Fast from hurting words and say kind words.
  • Fast from sadness and be filled with gratitude.
  • Fast from anger and be filled with patience.
  • Fast from pessimism and be filled with hope.
  • Fast from worries and have trust in God.
  • Fast from complaints and contemplate simplicity.
  • Fast from pressures and be prayerful.
  • Fast from bitterness and fill your hearts with joy.
  • Fast from selfishness and be compassionate to others
  • Fast from grudges and be reconciled.
  • Fast from words and be silent so you can listen.

“Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
