St. John Fisher Roman Catholic Church

30 Jones Hollow Road, Marlborough, CT 06447

GardenSpadeThe St. John Fisher Community Garden has been put to rest for the season after having a remarkable harvest for the 2016 growing season. Many tomatoes, carrots, green beans, peppers, lettuces and basil were grown and donated to the town of Marlborough Food Bank. In total, our garden donated over 235 pounds of vegetables!!

A big thank you to all of our faithful volunteers who came to help out on Monday evenings and also to the indispensable volunteers who helped to keep the garden watered on this very hot, dry summer. Your participation was much appreciated.

The garden committee will start making plans for next year in the spring of 2017 and we hope that more parishioners will get involved. It is a great way to help others and you do not need to be a gardener to join in. All ages and abilities are welcome. Hope to see you in the spring!

Starting in mid-July, there will be a container in the vestibule of the church for anyone whishing to donate items from their garden to area food pantries receiving the harvest from our community garden. Put those extra cucumbers and squash into the hands of people who would love them!

Many thanks from the STJF Garden Committee!

1001058The St. John Fisher Community Garden has officially gone to sleep for the winter months, but not before producing lots and lots of fresh vegetables for area food pantries! The new fencing being installed around the garden is an Eagle Scout Project of Sean Neary and the beautiful sign for the garden was painted by creative volunteers at Catholic Worker House in Hartford. A sincere thank you to the many volunteers who pitched in to make this garden so successful! See you all in the spring!
