Jesus was silent from the moment he answered Pilate’s question: “Are you the king of the Jews?” with “You say so” to his one and only anguished cry on the cross: “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Still, there was a lot of noise with accusations and with insults hurled against him, mocking him by misquoting his words.
And Jesus was silent --- even though the Lord God has given him a well-trained tongue.
Jesus was silent --- knowing that the Lord God was his help, knowing that he would not be put to shame.
When we are insulted, blamed for something we did not do, or verbally attacked, our first reaction is to defend ourselves.
Jesus was silent.
